Aunty Ruth's started life as a Community Interest Company in 2014 following a period of volunteering in Israel by two of the founding Directors.  They recognised the challenges that the children in poverty face there, on a daily basis.

Aunty Ruth's became a charity in 2016 and our charity shop in Cwmbran opened in July 2017. The Charity supports children of all nationalities.

Aunty Ruth's gets her name from the book of Ruth, in the Bible, where the Gentile woman, Ruth, stood by her Jewish Mother-in-Law, Naomi, saying, "Where you go, I go and Your God will be my God"

The founders of Aunty Ruth's had volunteered for Vision for Israel for six months during the winter of 2012/2013.  On their return to the UK, they wanted to continue supporting the children that were below the poverty line in Israel.

Donations of clothing and household bric-a-brac were collected from friends and family and like-minded Christians.  these items were sold at boot sales around Cardiff and Newport, turning clutter into cash to donate to charities in Israel like Vision for Israel.

The charity's objectives are - " The prevention or relief of poverty to children and young people within Israel and the UK as the trustees see fit, by providing or assisting in the provision of education and healthcare projects."

You might ask, "How do we define 'poverty' in Israel?"

Although Israel is not classed as being a third world country, it is at the bottom of the league tables.

www.haretz.com reported that on 17th January 2017 "the number of children living below the poverty line in Israel has quadrupled over the past three decades.  Thirty percent of children are living in poverty with the Arabs and Haredim the worst affected."

The data indicated that state payments to citizens - including unemployment benefits and child allowances - shrank and no longer provide any significant relief for families to escape the poverty cycle!

It continues... " There is too much distress and not enough solutions in the fields of education, welfare, health and the protection of children."

This is where Aunty Ruth's, aims to breach the gap.
